How it works

Every 4 hours, a script fetches the latest headlines from international news RSS feeds and sends them to Google Gemini (AI) to identify active armed conflicts worldwide. The AI extracts structured data — parties involved, location, status, casualties — and generates a global impact summary and travel disruption alerts for each conflict. The results are saved as a static JSON file that this page loads directly. There is no backend server — just a pre-generated data file and a map.

The AI is also prompted to include major ongoing conflicts that may not appear in the current news cycle, so coverage isn't limited to what's trending today.

What the map shows

• Dots — each dot is an armed conflict. Color indicates status: red = escalating, orange = active, teal = ceasefire or de-escalating.
• Pulse speed — faster pulse = higher intensity (escalating conflicts pulse fastest).
• Dashed lines — connect the countries/groups involved in each conflict. Color matches the conflict's status. These are approximate and based on party name matching — they show geopolitical connections, not precise battle lines.

Accuracy & limitations

This is not a verified news source. All conflict data, summaries, impact analysis, and travel alerts are generated by AI from public news headlines. They may contain factual errors, omissions, misattributions, outdated information, or biases present in the source material.

Specific limitations:

• Conflict coverage depends on what appears in English-language RSS feeds from three outlets — conflicts underreported in Western media may be missing or understated.
• Casualty figures are approximate and often contested. Numbers shown here should not be cited as authoritative.
• The "status" (active, escalating, etc.) is an AI judgement based on recent headlines, not a formal classification.
• Travel alerts are indicative only — always check official government travel advisories before making travel decisions.
• Conflict locations are approximate center points, not precise frontlines.
• The connecting lines between parties are based on name matching and may be inaccurate or missing.
